"The Galapagos of the West Indies"Tobago has quite rightly been hailed the Galapagos of the West Indies. Tobago’s exquisite reefs are home to an explosion of marine life from the microscopic to the majestic: over 1000 species of animals and plants have been identified in and around Tobago’s waters up to a depth of 200 ft (60 meters). Rumagin is about a 10 to 15 minute walk from Back Bay, a small secluded bay between Grafton and Mount Irvine Bay, where snorkeling is supposed to be the best. Also, just a 5-minute walk downhill from the villa, there is a fully equipped PADI dive shop on Grafton Beach offering introductory and refresher courses.
Tobago is one of the few places left in the world to which critically endangered populations of Hawksbill, Green and giant leatherback sea turtles return every year to lay their eggs. Rumagin is about a 5-minute walk away from Great Courland Bay, and the long sandy beach there is a prime nesting site. Tobago is home to 210 species of Birds and this villa is ideally situated, only about a 10 minute walk to a 200-acre Wildlife Sanctuary with bird-watching trails. In December, for two months, waves are usually the biggest attraction in the area. Rumagin is about a 10-minute walk away from Mt. Irvine Beach, a favourite with surfers worldwide, where there are kayaks and motorized sea-craft to rent. The PGA Championship Mt. Irvine Golf Course is just up the hill.
The Plymouth Jazz FestivalAlso, please note close proximity of these self-catering apartments/villa to the Plymouth Jazz Festival, Tobago’s biggest annual event: Tobago hosted its first Jazz Festival in 2005 and it was such a huge success – featuring big-name stars like Sting and Stevie Wonder – that it has since become an annual event. And hopefully, one day, it’ll be an institution. Just like the long-standing Sunday School street-pan party, held weekly in Buccoo, is: a place where locals and visitors can interact, people-watch, join in a really big jam session. More so than Carnival (a far more intense celebration in Trinidad, Tobago’s more cosmopolitan sister isle), in only its fifth year, the Plymouth Jazz Festival has already become Tobago’s biggest yearly event. |
